Devotion in Motion Island Style is a Christian-based, Polynesian dance group whose mission is to share the “Spirit of Aloha” through the music, dance and culture of the Pacific islands.
In Hawaiian, “aloha” translates as “love”. Inspiration for the praise dance group is drawn from I Corinthians 13 “…The greatest of these is love.” Their motto, “Aloha Ke Akua” (God is Love), embodies this scriptural sentiment.
Devotion in Motion’s presentations are Christ-centered, breathing new life into traditional hymns such as “Amazing Grace” and contemporary selections of other praise worship songs.
Performances engage audiences with authentic dance, music and garb of Hawaii, Tahiti, Samoa and New Zealand (Autearoa). The master ceremonies guides spectators on a journey through Polynesia, leading them on an entertaining adventure, sharing the tales and meaning underlying each dance.
Under Kumu Hula Lia Kamminga’s tutelage, Devotion in motion Island Style has been performing locally in the Antelope Valley for more than 15 years. They have toured throughout California and other parts of the United States, including Colorado, Washington, Las Vegas, Texas and Hawaii, bringing unique, uplifting choreography to churches and other public venues. They have shared the stage with Hapa, Cazimero Borthers, Makaha Sons and Ho’okena. Troupe members have also toured with Aloha Joe, the popular Hawaiian music radio personality, on his sponsored Hawaiian island cruise.
The praise dance company is affiliated with the professional Iolani Polynesian Dance Troupe and Hula Halau O Kanoelani, the student training center for technique and repertory in Quartz Hill, California.
